I would like to know if anyone out there has fibromyalgia and how are you coping with it.?

I have chronic pain pretty much all through my body. I can't work anymore and sometimes I have a hard time coping when I have to realize how it has changed my life. I try to think positive but at times it gets the better of me. I am taking Zoloft for depression and it has helped. I don't sleep well at all from the pain during the night and toss and turn all night. Anyone out there have this disease and maybe can share how they cope are what they do to help there pain.

I don't have fibromyalgia, but I have a somewhat similar disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I know ho much the pain can change you life. One thing that has helped me cope with my pain has been going to a pain psychologist, it has given me many skills to help cope with the pain, and some of the "teasing" that I get in school about it (I'm a high school sophomore). I also don't sleep much at night and one of the things that has helped is my doctor prescribed me a sleeping medication (which I currently don't take because my pain is somewhat under control so I just go on and off of it when my pain is better and worse) which has helped me get some sleep despite the pain. I also listen to music at night which helps me relax and get some rest. My pain management doctor has also been helpful with treatments in my pain that has been able to help me with coping, and pain management. Good luck!
YES..this is a serious disease..did you know that years ago they suggested people with fibromyalgia go to a shrienk?? they thought it was all in ones head..i too cant work anymore and had to quit 4 years ago..been to sooo many dr's and hospitals..like 36 dr's and 4 diff hospitals in the past 4 years...and the pain..OMG..well i take pain pills muscle relaxors..and all kinds of meds..yes an anti-depressants..is very hard to cope with ...but i find myself telling myself..."theres alot worse off people in the world..at least i can walk still and i can get out some ..and at least its not terminal..even tho the pain gets so intense..i make myself walk and appreciate life...for all that i use to do and how fast..and for all i still want to do...some i possibly cnat..like jump out of a plane and ride a wild bull..but oo well..i do what i can ..when i cna and i thank the GOOD LORD im alive an really not so bad off compared to others... heres a hug sweetie and God bless.i know how ya feel the pain is soo intense..and we learn to live with what we can..also i wanted to add...alot of people think were just trying to get out of workk and lazy..but its NOT so..i miss working and sure not lazy...and iw ant to tell those people ..how very real the pain and disease is!!
I do not have Fibromyalgia but I do have RA (rheumatoid arthritis). I know your pain, literally. My life was on hold till I found out what it was. I was an art student and could not do anything (ceramics, graphic design..etc) Ask to see a rheumatologist. they can treat fibro , i think. I was on 11 pills till I found a good combination.now im on 3one for inflammation, pain and one to keep the RA at bay. Now I take a lortab right before bed. But not during the day. It helps me make it through the night.
I've had Fibromyalgia for 7 years and I haven't been able to work either. It can definitely get a person down, and sometimes I have to take life one minute at a time and hope for better days. Anyway, the medicines I'm taking are:1) Celexa-- an anti-depressant, for depression and chronic pain. Works well for pain in my spine and rib cage.
2) Cyclobenzaprine -- a muscle relaxer. I have found this particular muscle relaxer helps Fibro the best when taken everyday. Helps relax muscles and relieves pain, helps with mood too. It helps me sleep. I take it only at night because it makes me tired.
3) Lyrica -- This medication came out almost 2 years ago. It's "on-label" use is for nerve pain caused by having Shingles and for diabetic neuropathy. However, it is VERY helpful for Fibromyalgia. It has helped my pain a lot and has helped with fatigue also. This medication has given me some of my life back.
4) Oxaprozin -- An anti-inflammatory. I have also found some vitamin supplements that help with pain and fatigue:1) Coenzyme A -- Helps produce energy. The least-expensive price I have found is at Vitacost.com
2) L-Carnitine -- 1000mg per day. It is an amino acid. Helps quite a bit with energy.
3) MSM -- a form of sulfur. It helps relieve pain in the ligaments and tendons in the joints. Take 1000 - 2000 mg per day
4) Grape Seed extract. Helps with joint pain.
5) L-Tyrosine -- an amino acid. Take 500 - 1000mg per day. Helps with depression. Best taken at night.
6) There are other amino acids that help with energy. You may want to read up on amino acids and decide what others you would like to try.
After a bad car accident about 3 years ago, I started all the symptoms of this. There is a book about this which I have read and has helped. It is called "Fibromylagia for Dummies" It gives a lot of good information.
I was on pain meds but they would run out in the middle of the night and I would wake up in agony. I have been on the fentanyl patch now for some time which has helped. It basically flows through the skin, so that the medication doesn't run out in the middle of me sleeping. I am not functioning very well to be honest. I have been out of work for about 3 years now, and have totally used up my savings. Now I have to go back to work, and see how long I can keep a job. I am a single mom without child support and am in excrutiating pain constantly. I have cognitive issues as well. Short term memory is a joke, etc. There are support groups and hopefully in our lifetimes they will take this seriously and find a cure. I wish you well.
I dont have Fibromyalgia, but I am a massage therapist and had a client with fibromyalgia. I had a client that would come and recieve massage from me on a weekly basis, she said it helped her tremendously. I would suggest getting massage for your disourder, as long as it is not causing pain. Massage might not take care of any of the physical symptoms of fibromyalgia, it will certainly help with the depression. Massage is very relaxing, and often cause a possitive emotional release.

I have Fibromyalgia and have been bedridden for seventeen years because of it and a Hip accident. what helps me the most is getting deep tissue massage therapy. Nothing else helps me as much. I take Paxil for sleep and it works pretty good. When the pain is bad I take Valium 10mg and that helps. I take Tylenol number 3 for the pain. I take a soft gel multi vitamin, digestive enzymes, lecithin, CoQ10 in soft gel formula every day. extra vitamin C., E, selenium and zinc. This helps a lot. I've enclosed a link where you can read in detail what I recommend to help with Fibromyalgia. Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion. Massage an analgesic cream into the sore muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. I see alot of fibro patients in my massage practice. They say massage helps them cope with the issues that fibro patients deal with.I would see an alternative specialist. A naturopath or a chiropractor preferably. They both look at the source of the problem and correct it as opposed to just treating the symptoms like a traditional md does.There are some professionals that believe the root cause of fibro is a disruption in the firing pattern of the brain. And,that over stimulation can worsen it. (Like lots of noise, too bright lights, etc...) There is a chiropractor that has been doing a lot of really good work in this area. His name is Dr Mike Johnson. I am not sure where he lives ( I think Wisconsin or Minnesota) but he also has a book out. I heard him speak at a conference last year and he made more sense than anyone I have ever heard on the subject of fibromyalgia. Hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon!www.askdrjohnson.com
