If you have hernia can shooting pains occur if so how serious is this?

Answer:
Why dont you ring your local hospital casualty A%26E department and ask if it is something you should be at all concerned about. OR the NHS direct 0845 46 47I have an Umbilical hernia and its often quite sore but its a dull ache sore rather than shooting pains. Though I have had shooting pain with it, but theyr rare and they only 'spasm' on and off for a minute or so and then go away, enough for me to forget them.
But If you are concerned enough about yours to put it in here then I am guessing that you have had far more pain than Im describing. And usually the casualty departments are quite good and the NHS direct are excellentEither way I think you need to contact someone, if only to be on the safe side and have your mind put at rest
i would think that if shooting pains were occuring due to a hernia, then it would be serious.
I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and there are 3 types of hernia, umbilical, inguinal and hiatus. Inguinal can be very serious if not life threatening. It is treated by surgery, if it isn't treated it can strangulate and become gangrenous. Usually this type is found as a lump in the groin areagloriashealth@btinternet.com
