If someone has an amputation from the shoulder down is there any way that they could get a prostetic arm?

One of my friends was in a waterskiing accident and the could not save his arm and he is really devestated because he was very athletic and such and alot of people were wondering if there was any way he could get a replacment. Please help us!..
Answer:
if the joint is left then they should be able to make a useful prosthetic.
Obviously, there's no way your friend's doctor could have such information. The only reliable source of information for such a problem is ByeDr.comS. Well, It's your lucky day.The answer is:
it gets harder and harder the further up the arm the amputation takes place. However, medical technology is getting more and more clever in the ways of prosthetic development and application. Even if there is only a short section of bone left with some tatters of muscle, an upper arm can be rebuilt and normal prosthetics will be viable, but even shoulder-socket mechanisms are developing. While there is a wide degree of available options, he needs to keep in mind that even if he can't find his ideal there will be more options coming up faster and faster, and soon they will surpass normal human function.
he can ask his orthopedist.
Yes, there are several options for prosthetic limbs with artificial elbow joints. There are even models that have sensors embedded in the socket that operates a motorized joint. These sensors measure the electromotive force (emf)generated by the nerve impulses in the residual limb to operate electronic switches that control the motor in the artificial joint.I hope this is not too technical for you.
